An Innovative Universal Screw Removal Instrument
OBJECTIVE To present the clinical benefits of an instrument designed to facilitate removal of polyaxial screws during revision surgery. METHODS All polyaxial screws can be removed without additional materials or a large amount of debridement using our newly designed instrument. Forty-two screws were removed from five patients without any complications using this instrument. RESULTS We remov...
متن کاملNovel technique for removal of a broken intracortical screw during THA.
Most reports regarding hardware removal involve the violation of the cortex to allow a specialized to tool to extract a retained fragment. This leaves large, unfilled screw holes that act as stress risers for months postoperatively. This article describes a novel technique to remove a retained intracortical screw fragment during total hip arthroplasty. Conversion of an intertrochanteric osteoto...
متن کاملRemoval of a broken intramedullary femoral nail with an unusual pattern of breakage: a case report
To the best of our knowledge, only 3 cases, including the present case, have been reported with a three part broken pattern. However, this is the first case associated with a distal locking screw broken. We report the case of a 31-year-old patient who sustained an open femoral shaft fracture . The fracture was stabilized with a Kuntcher femoral nail. After 7 months of the initial surgery he pre...
متن کاملA technique for removal of broken cannulated tricortical syndesmotic screws.
Breakage rates of tricortical syndesmotic screws after weight bearing range from 10% to 29%. Removal of the portion of the broken screw buried within the tibia often proves quite difficult. We report a new technique to remove a broken cannulated syndesmotic screw. This technique is simple, time saving, and less traumatic than previously reported methods of broken syndesmotic screw removal.
متن کاملSurgical Technique on screw removal in case of broken screw in SCFE Introduction Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis
We describe a case where a traumatic unstable SCFE that was initially treated with closed reduction and fixation with a single transphyseal screw went on to hardware failure with recurrence of the deformity. The complication was successfully treated with closed reduction and recannulating the fractured screw within the epiphysis and extracting it using a conical extraction screw commonly referr...
